Holiday Gift Baskets - Siimply Great

By Robert Lovelace

There is a lot to do during the holiday season and even the best organized person can feel a little over the top. One great way to shorten that gift list is to give gift baskets. It is a unique solution because it can be a hit with casual recipients or close, personal friends. If you are new to this whole idea of gift baskets and want to take the short route, explore online shops that specialize in this. When you do this it's good to remember a few important things - order early! The other tip is just as important - avoid disappointment. If it's a vendor you are unfamiliar with, contact them to confirm that the basket will contain the items listed on their site. Be sure to confirm delivery date. Another smart tip is ask friends for recommendations.

If you are giving a holiday basket to a casual friend, food is always a good choice. Look for a basket that has a good selection of gourmet cheeses, spreads, crackers along with something for the sweet tooth. Depending on your budget you could include gift certificates to a coffeehouse or pastry shop. For close friends you probably have a good idea of what they would enjoy. Gourmet food items like fruits, chocolates and cheeses are all time favorites and very popular for the holidays. Seasonal gift baskets offer such an abundance of possibilities that it is sometimes hard to narrow it down.

If you are planning on making the gift basket yourself first settle on a theme. Food is good and offers lots of possibilities. From chocolate to garden gnomes, there are many, many possibilities. With what you know about the person you are giving it to, you should be able to put a creative spin on whatever theme you choose. The great thing about holiday gift baskets is that almost any kind of gift items can be bundled together. This makes it easier to personalize. Museum gift shops are a great place to find appropriate items, from Impressionist postcards or art book to stocking stuffers that are unique. Other possibilities might include scented candles, puzzles, refrigerator magnets or something handmade from a craft fair.

Once all the elements are at hand it's time to plan your basket look. Arrangement is important to give the effect of great abundance, carefully position everything in a bed of raffia and you will likely create a masterpiece that is a delight to the senses. All that's left after the fun task of creating a cornucopia of excitement is a few finishing touches. Wrapping your basket in clear plastic is the usual way to go. This holds everything in place and helps protect freshness. Curly ribbon, bows and streamers are all nice ways to add to the excitement. Be sure to included a note card with your best wishes. For a more personal touch make the card yourself from colored papers.
