Tips On Separating Your Home From Your Office

By Dalvin Rumsey

Should you be working at home, you have to be careful with the risky issue of separating the home from the office. It is not at all like just staying at home, answering emails in our pajamas. Thought you will get to spend more time with your families? Well, it is not true!

If you are working at home, you can always expect the doorbell, the neighbor or the telemarketer to disturb you from your work. Kids can sometimes make your day and spilling a whole box of milk on the floor.

Yes, you can have a successful home business, even if you can never eliminate these distractions completely. But in order to achieve that, there are a few rules that have to be considered. The first thing you must do is setting your office in a part of the house with a door or at least as far away from the living space as possible within reason.

Your family must know when you are not to be bothered, so make a sign for them. Try using something nice and funny, so that the children will dare to disturb you should they have a real problem.

Never mix personal activities with your work time. The last thing you do each day should be plan the following day. Make a specific schedule of when you will be working and when you will be doing personal things. It is always a good idea to keep all of your work items together to maintain the work frame of mind. This will help you become more productive without feeling overwhelmed and neglectful of your personal duties.

You must not overload yourself. Should you sign a large contract that you know will require more of your time, discuss it with your family and create a schedule with everyone helping out in preparing dinner, doing the washing and taking care of all the housework. If you already have many things to do, never accept new tasks, as you can always use the free time to out for a walk, go shopping, read a book, but do something away from the office. It is important that you not lose yourself just because you are an entrepreneur. Reward your own hard work by stepping out for an ice cream, taking the kids to the park, or anything else that will make you happy.

To sum it up, the most important thing is to set a goal and then do everything in order to achieve it!
