What's New With Suzuki?

By Shane Morgay

American Suzuki Motor Corporation (ASMC) arrives for the 2006 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) trade show held in the in the entertainment capital of the world with 5 brand new vehicles. These Suzuki vehicles boast their groundbreaking capabilities, assortment of concept, and sophisticated accessories.

Suzuki is enjoying its US sales record, led by its Grand Vitara. The latter is the long-wheelbase version of the Vitara. The automaker's engineers produced the recent version of Grand Vitara independently. Nonetheless, it still uses most of Suzuki Vitara accessories.

Aside from Grand Vitara, Suzuki lineup is also composed of all-new 2007 Suzuki XL7 midsize SUV and SX4 compact crossover with standard all-wheel drive. Further, in connection with its 'Way of Life' mantra, Suzuki unveiled BaseCamp and Zuk from the 'Suzuki Live Series' concept vehicles.

"The exciting concepts and accessories we are showing at SEMA illustrate our emerging identity in the aftermarket community," said Gene Brown, vice president of marketing and PR, ASMC. "Suzuki is increasingly interested in designing visually appealing products and accessories that resonate with enthusiasts, especially because of the role that head-turning vehicles play in their active lifestyles."

Suzuki Live Series, a sequence of concept vehicles intended for adventurers, life enthusiasts and thrill-seekers, was introduced to the market last year. The series is aimed at promoting Suzuki's philosophy and improving car enthusiast's lifestyle. Brand new vehicles use upgraded auto parts as well as sophisticated Suzuki accessories.

BaseCamp concept is based on the 2007 Suzuki XL7. It delivers cutting-edge design and technology to satisfy the craving for outdoor adventures of aficionados. Its exterior is covered with a liquid metal body paint finished with titanium cladding. The vehicle features a unique gullwing passenger side door, custom roof rack system with an integrated dual slot bike rack and Santa Cruz mountain bikes, utility storage pack and access system, eight high-intensity LED light clusters, Wi-Fi Internet access, iPod®1/MP3 capabilities, and attachable peninsula bar work station with full media connectivity.

Zuk, on the other hand, is inspired by championship-winning sportbikes. It is powered by a 300-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged and intercooled engine with alcohol injection system, coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission. It is designed to achieve superb street performance without sacrificing the comfort aspect. Zuk features a refined all-wheel-drive system, excellent stability and agile handling characteristics.
