$10,000 Goes TO Car Wash Customer

By Tracy Dawson

Alfred Berry who is from Chanhassen, Minnesota was just an ordinary car owner. He would use his vehicle for his daily duties and trips. He would also at times notice that his vehicle would need a couple of Honda auto parts because they have already been damaged so off he would go to replace them. Mr. Berry would also go to his favorite car wash station to have his vehicle cleaned off before going home. But Alfred Berry's life changed when he won a name the mascot contest.

Lustra Professional Car Care Products has this lovable mascot which is actually a polar bear. The company probably had trouble giving the cute mascot a name so they instead transferred the duty of naming their mascot to their customers through a contest – Name The Bear, Win A Mini. Alfred Berry was one of their customers and he also did choose the right name for the Lustra Professional Car Care Products polar bear mascot.

What's the name for this mascot? Alfred Berry gave the car wash mascot the name Brighton. And it was the name chosen over tons of other entries. Over 80,000 entries to be precise.

Berry did choose to have a $10,000 cash price instead of taking home a new 2006 BMW Mini Cooper. And on his luck, he says, "I'm extremely excited about this. I was pretty much blown away. I consider this one of the highlights of my life. It was surreal."

"It was a fun way to raise the awareness of our products. The contest was also a great way to connect with customers like Alfred Berry and give them direct input into an important decision for us, namely, coming up with a fitting name for our Lustra mascot," says Jim McDermott. McDermott is the current vice president of sales and marketing for Lustra. He does even further say, "The car washes are a great prize. Our car wash and protection products give our customers a unique and satisfying car wash experience by ensuring a cleaner, shinier, and well protected vehicle." Yes, he is talking about the other top ten first prize winners who were given a year's worth of taking advantage of car washes from the company.
