Used Car Servicing and Repair Prices - Part One

By Ver Cruz

There's no doubt about it: we love our cars. It's one of our biggest financial investments, and along with our money, we have invested into our cars all our identities and personal expressions. No wonder we spend thousands of dollars just to have our cars always in top shape in peak performance.

Two primary concerns when servicing or repairing your car are money and workmanship. These two prerequisites need to be thought out seriously when determining the appropriate service centre which will care for your particular vehicle, especially if it's a used car.

Not that used cars are fragile, bruising easily, and require more care than new ones. In fact, used cars are just as sturdy and well-performing as their newer counterparts. There is much advice on servicing your used car. Many argue that local garage or workshops are best, and that you only need to go to your car dealer for warranty work and recalls. Others argue that car dealers are the 'real experts' even though they're outrageously expensive. These opinions are interesting, but don't clarify the facts of dealership service versus local workshop or garage service.

Whether at your dealership or local workshop, used car service and repair prices are extreme. In terms of money, all car service and repair is too expensive. Consumers are ripped-off millions of dollars every year. All service facilities: dealerships, local workshops, garages and franchises, are deceiving us in one form or another. Advertising that one facility is more expensive doesn't explain logically that 98% of ALL car-servicing shops are 'robbing us blind'.

Moreover, the expense argument of car repair doesn't take into account the quality of service for the money. Think about the quality of service between a dealership and local shop, which is a key factor to consider.

There are vast differences in the quality of used car repairs. There are many variables, from the customer service received, the diagnosis of the problem, the quality of parts used, to the technician performing the actual repair.
