CHANTIX - A Chant For Smoking Cessation

By Norma Dsouza

Those, formerly or currently addicted to Nicotine have surely gone over the done deal of terms some of these terms floating around: Nicotine patches, withdrawal, nicotine gum, and so on. Most of them, with whatever success rates, have been known to work for some, but has often left one wondering if there is anything on the offing that can deal with Nicotine addiction without actually involving it. Pfizer, the ace at pharmaceuticals offers another wonder that is a hot among pharmaceutical blogs and those trying to do away with the habit. It's called Chantix, and it has much to offer.

It has been noted that quitting Nicotine is a real tough deal for reasons that are quite physiological.
When smokers inhale smoke from a cigarette, nicotine reaches the brain within seconds and binds to nicotinic receptors, which activates the reward pathway in brain circuitry. This stimulates the pleasure center in the brain. The initial effects disappear quickly and a cycle of craving and withdrawal thus begins all over again. Chantix, by way of its chemical composition, only partially activates the nicotinic receptors in the brain and thus cuts down on the craving for Nicotine, as well as the withdrawal symptoms. Added to this, Chantix also considerably reduces the satisfaction attained from smoking, thereby helping to pull away from the habit faster if Nicotine is offered during treatment. Thus, to quit smoking has never been any easier.

According to sources, and Pfizer's own media center, it is the first medication in a decade to directly hit smoking. It has an FDA approval which came into effect after an intense trial programme that involved more than two thousand cigarette smokers. Compared to other drugs in the league such as placebo and buproprion, it has nearly four times as much of a chance at working on a long term basis, and as in a lot of successful cases, might even have a permanent retained effect! The most common side effects included nausea, changes in dreaming, constipation, gas and vomiting, but on the whole, were found to be better tolerated than most others. Besides, prevention of lung cancer is priceless. Need there be anything more said? Go buy Chantix, all you who can't let go!
