Peyronie's – A Men's Health Scare

By Daniels Charles

Sexual diseases among men are a great cause for concern especially if the disease is straining the fragile relationship between the partners. Peyronie's disease, though rare, can cause a health scare if not treated properly and in time.

Peyronie's disease is a rare connective tissue disorder involving the growth of fibrous plaques in the soft tissue of penis. Due to rarity, Peyronie's disease information is also quite rare. The major cause of the disease is an injury to the internal cavity of penis. The bleeding from the injury results in over-production of scar tissues and promotes the growth of plaques. The injury may occur due to any physical activity straining the penis. But usually, the injury is the result of strenuous sexual activity. However, another probable but rare occurrence is Peyronie's disease spreading as a hereditary disorder.

Peyronies Disease may cause pain, hardened, cord-like lesions or abnormal curvature of the penis when erect. In addition, narrowing and or shortening of the penis may occur. Pain felt in the early stages of the disease often resolves in twelve to eighteen months. The sexual intercourse becomes extremely painful. Peyronie's disease is a non-contagious one and cannot affect the women.

For Peyronie's disease treatment, a qualified urologist is your best bet. Since this disease is rare, it's always advisable to consult the urologist who has complete knowledge and expertise on Peyronie's disease. The urologist will treat Peyronie's disease either with pills or injections to plaques. He may also prescribe some medicine to be applied on the infected part. If the patient does not respond to all the treatments, surgery can be resorted to. Never try self-medication or indigenous techniques with penis. You may actually aggravate the situation and permanently incur damage by trying to self-medicate. Always consult a qualified urologist for safe and early recovery.
