Alcohol: The Curse of Impotence

When God discovered wine little did they know that this would become the biggest problem of the modern society. Alcohol has broken many homes and rendered many children homeless. Excessive alcohol drinking has been responsible for heart attacks, road accidents, kidney failures and loss of human lives.
Alcohol also causes a loss of desire and impotence. In the words of William Shakespeare, alcohol provokes the desire but takes away the performance. Impotence or erectile dysfunction is an inability to achieve or maintain an erection to have a sexual intercourse and it also includes the inability to get an erection by sexual stimulation. Alcohol in small amounts is a muscle relaxant but when taken in excessive amounts, can cause permanent nerve damage, which can result in impotence.
Long term alcohol use can cause hormone imbalance which can cause a man to have too much of female hormone estrogen which again is a major cause of impotence. Excessive consumption of alcohol for an average man can also cause Brewer's Droop or temporary impotence. Alcohol addiction causes irreversible damage to the penile nerves and diminishes testosterone levels which cause impotence in men. The surprising part is that heavy drinkers are susceptible to alcohol induced impotence even when they are sober.
Alcohol addiction causes behavioral changes that inhibit satisfactory sexual performance and cause impaired judgment and hazy concentration. However there is hope. Alcohol addiction can be broken and reversed with timely help. The alcohol induced impotence can be treated with drugs like Viagra which cause an increase in the penile blood flow and help in erection.
