Knowledge is Useless

By Aaron M. Potts

There is a common misconception in our society that "knowledge is power". This statement is utterly and completely false! In fact, quite the opposite is true. Knowledge is useless. Your college education, your experiences in life or your above-average IQ don't mean a thing and they won't allow you to earn a dime or to have a moment of happiness or prosperity in this world.

Unless you USE them, of course!

It seems like a no-brainer to hear something like that, but the purpose of this article is to remind you that all of the wisdom and intelligence in the world won't do you any good whatsoever unless you put it all to good use on a regular basis.

Society teaches us that we have to get a good education and "do something" with our lives, so we blindly engage in educational and self development programs and activities, and then sit back and wait for our reward to come.

And we wait. Then we wait some more. Then, when we're done waiting, we wait a little longer.

What happens? Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zero. Zilch.

The simple reason why nothing happens is because we have a very incorrect belief that by just "knowing" something that we will automatically receive the financial or personal rewards associated with knowing that thing.

Think about it. If someone were to ask you if successful doctors and lawyers are wealthy, your answer would probably be yes, because most of them are. Why are they rich? Because they spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on their education, and then they use that education to provide a service that people are willing to pay a premium price for.

Let's try another one. If someone were to ask you if the average high school or college dropout was wealthy, what would your answer be? You would likely say something along the lines of, "Maybe, but only if they were lucky enough to get a really good job".

Why would you say that? Because we think that without a good education, you would need a serious stroke of luck to get a good job! Once again, our society's beliefs about how to create wealth and prosperity are firmly anchored in the fact that you have to be smart, and/or you have to have access to a great opportunity in order to create wealth.

So, if that is the case, then we are also saying that unless someone is smart, or unless they magically find one of these opportunities, then they automatically don't have a chance for true wealth or prosperity in our world.

That is also utterly and completely false!

The truth of the matter - and the point of this article - is that knowledge is useless unless you APPLY it to something that is worthwhile to you. Those doctors and lawyers that we talked about earlier wouldn't make a dime if they didn't use their education to provide their high-priced services.

On the other hand , those high school and college dropouts that we discussed earlier can - and have - created fortunes by taking some small bit of knowledge or experience that they have, and using it to provide products, services, or opportunities that have in turn created great wealth for them.

This concept is very, very important to the person who is seeking self improvement and self development! There are thousands and thousands of books, audios, educational courses, and other resources available for the average person who wants to improve their life. These resources range in cost from free, up through many thousands of dollars.

And they are all completely useless unless you actually USE them! Too often people find some "answer" to their life's problems in a book, a course of education, or simply in some bit of free advice that they picked up. Then they jump up and down for joy, rejoicing in the fact that they have finally "figured it all out", and now they can go forward and find the happiness and prosperity that has been eluding them their entire lives!

Then what happens? Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zero. Zilch.

Why? Nothing happens because they did not APPLY what they had learned. Their "knowledge" was useless because they didn't actually use it!

This happens over and over again every single day to people all over the world. They go looking for "answers", they find them, and then they don't actually do anything with the information. Oh sure, they say that they are going to, and they may actually mean it, but then they don't do it. And nothing happens.

So, if you want your life to be better than it is today, then go ahead and get that education, buy that book, or take that piece of advice. This time however, change your future by doing something drastically different than you have ever done before: Apply that knowledge!

Then, when the happiness or prosperity that you seek comes into your life, you can jump up and down for joy, rejoicing in the great things that YOU have created.

Also give yourself a big pat on the back while you're at it, because by applying knowledge to the improvement of your life, you have shown beyond a shadow of a doubt that you are nothing less than a genius!
