Dams, Cots and Gloves

By Amanda Johnson

Dam-- is a small sheet of latex, Which is used in oral sex. It works as a barrier between mouth and the organ, which is to be sucked or licked by the mouth. It is used on the vagina and anus, during sex, so the Sexually Transmitted Diseases, does not transmitt to the other partner. Actually oral sex is considerd safe in comparison to the intercourse, because the HIV virus does not go straight to the blood stream. The skin of mouth is thick so it is safer and does not transmitt the disease. But if there are wounds or cuts on the lips or inside the mouth than it is equally risky. Dams, are device which dentists normally use in root canaling and surgery. The same device is used to cover the vagina and anus, before oral sex. It is advicable to use the dams before every oral act. Never use the same device for vagina and anus. Always throw after use. Dams should not be reused. It should not be artifically lubricated with baby oils or lotions. The best is to use the water based lubrications.

Cots—it is a small device, like a male condom which is to be used on the fingers. It is commanly used for the sexual foreplay and finger sex. Its drawback is that it may slip while using, so it becomes a little uncomfortable for the user. These are not safe as the vaginal fluids can drip to the hand and palm and transmitt the HIV virus, if there is a cut or a wound. People prefer gloves than these cots.

Gloves—are mainly used in medical surgery or in the kitchen to protect hands. These are becoming popular in sexual activities because its rubber protects from the transmission of STDs. It covers the full hand, so its very safe for the foreplay in a sexual act, or finger sex. Wash your hands before and after any sexual act, with soap and water, to get rid of any infection. Usually these gloves are made of latex or natural rubber. These are easily available in the market.

Whatever device you choose, make it sure that it should be hyginic. These devices should be in proper shape and size. One must check the expiry date before using it. Torn or damaged devices does not work effectively, so must be thrown immidiatiely without using.
