Why Do You Need To Worry About Marketing?

By Mical Johnson

WHY DO YOU NEED TO WORRY ABOUT MARKETING?

Even if you are selling a 'must have' product like water or air, if your potential customers don't know that they need it, or do not know that you have it available to them, you are not going to be successful. Marketing is vital to presenting a product or service in such a way that your potential customers are eager to buy it. As such, you need to understand your target audience, the product you are selling, and how best to present why they should buy from you and your company rather then your competitor or another source! Marketing does all of the following things for you.

CREATES BRAND AWARENESS

Readers that see adverts about your product or service are potential customers who are more likely to recognize and remember your business when it comes time to make purchases.

SPEEDS UP THE BUYING CYCLE

Potential customers often seem to prefer advertised products as they have an awareness of them in advance of your approach, increasing the chances of mailings and brochures being read, and sales people having a warm reception.

BOOSTS SALES VOLUMES

Every ad you run is like having a sales force talking direct to potential buyers.

ENHANCES PRESTIGE

Firms that advertise are usually thought by buyers and potential customers to be more credible. A great ad increases image and awareness.

FINDING YOUR NICHE/AUDIENCE

Finding out how many people will want to buy your product or service (and what those people are like) is vital to any successful company and their marketing scheme. Ideally you need to conduct "market research" prior to starting your company, to find out whether there are enough potential customers out there for your goods or services. This is crucial for someone launching a business - or for a business launching a new product or service.

Market research can help you decide how you're going to find customers, how to persuade them to buy from you and how to make them loyal. Many large companies employ market researchers, but smaller firms can conduct the research themselves. Lots of free information is available from local libraries, chamber of commerce and trade associations.

As well as carrying out general research, you'll need to take a more detailed look at your product, customers and marketplace to get a feel for what your would-be customers really think. The last thing you want to do is base your business solely on your "gut feeling" or general statistics - if you can afford it, this is a good area in which to bring in an expert.
