Ford Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engines Available For Delivery

By Chuck Smith

The Ford Motor Company is now out to produce a new generation of engines that could be much advantageous for vehicle owners and drivers. And just recently, what the company did is it started off the production of V10 engines that are fueled by hydrogen. And because of this, it is important to note that the Ford Motor Company is now the very first auto manufacturer to create such engines.

The words of Dr. Gerhard Schmidt, the vice president for the Ford Motor Company's researched and advanced engineering department, go, "This engine represents a significant milestone in Ford's research efforts in hydrogen technology. We have learned a great deal about hydrogen powered internal combustion engines during the development phase of this engine." And according to the company, such a move would actually mark off a part of auto industry that hydrogen could be used as a practical and usable fuel for motor vehicles.

If you are now interested about this new generation of engines, you should now know that the 6.8 liter V10 engine would be made available for the company's Ford E-450 hydrogen fueled shuttle buses. And yes, customers of Ford fleets would be receiving such buses mounted with the new engines sometime at the end of this year. First drop off would be in the area of Florida. Just imagine how it would be like ordering the latest high performance parts for Ford Crown Victoria and having these parts sent directly to your doorstep. This time, what would be sent to customers are buses with hydrogen engines.

Vance Zanardelli, the chief engineer for the company's hydrogen international combustion engines department, states, "We have only scratches the surface in terms of what can be achieved with hydrogen internal combustion engine technology and are serious about maintaining our edge in this field." Sure enough, this new generation of hydrogen engines is very efficient and could be used in all kinds of weather.
