3 Tips to Avoiding Online Scams

By Allan Ingledue

It is amazing how susceptible people are to get-rich-quick scams and how good they seem at first. Every year thousands risk and lose money they can't afford to lose, while seeking that "next big thing." There has never been a get-rich-quick scam that didn't appear awesome on the surface. This is because the designers of these scams are a great deal better at camouflaging these bad deals than most people are at discovering them.

How can you steer clear of such scams? "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding" (Proverbs 3:5). Below is a short list of a few straightforward rules to help you avoid get-rich-quick scams.
· Stay with what you know
"By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established" (Proverbs 24:3). Seldom will anyone be suckered into a get-rich-quick scam in his or her area of expertise. Most people who make money do it in the area in which they have the most knowledge and experience. Those who fail more often than not do so in an field where they understand only a small amount (if anything) about.

· Don't make quick decisions
"The plans of the diligent lead surely to advantage, but everyone who is hasty comes surely to poverty" (Proverbs 21:5). The fundamental nature of a get-rich-quick scam is emotion. The advertiser advises the prospective customer to take action immediately otherwise the chance may be missed. The last tactic is to play on a persons greed by hinting that another is waiting to snap up this once in a lifetime chance. What is the best way to avoiding this type of ploy? "Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who carries out wicked schemes" (Psalm 37:7).

· Seek expert guidance
"The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man is he who listens to counsel" (Proverbs 12:15). It is surprising how fast somebody that is not blandly involved with a get-rich-quick scam can spot its flaws. Expert, impartial counsel must be a requirement before any important financial decision.
Many of the most successful men in the world were well versed in the proverbs. Albert
Einstein and Benjamin Franklin to name only two. If you do not know it the Proverbs
were written by King Solomon. He is the wisest and wealthiest man to ever live. His gold reserves alone would be worth almost a trillion dollars today. Can you find a better mentor? I don't think so. "It is the blessing of the Lord that makes rich, and He adds no sorrow to it" (Proverbs 10:22).
