Furniture Throws - A Simple Solution for Decorating on a Budget

By Jenny Edwards

Furniture throws are a concept that is continually over looked by people who are trying to redecorate on a budget. A quality throw, in the right colour and material, is a small, yet significant way to enliven any room and a trick that many designers and decorators utilize to enhance and finish a room. Throws are an easy and attractive way to brighten, bring together, and transform the fundamentals of decor in a room.

Throws are a fantastic opportunity to bring some contrast into a dull, lifeless room. Try adding bright coloured throws to your sofa and chairs to bring light into a dark room and dark coloured ones for a light one and you can try adding any sort of bright colour to a neutral room!

Accessorize according to your mood or alternatively change the decor each season. Add warm, rich accent colours such as red and gold in heavy fabrics such as faux fur and velvet in the winter. For the summer, change to cool, serene shades such as light blue and yellow in fabrics such as cotton or linen

Sometimes the smallest changes revitalize a tired design. The same old worn looking sofa suddenly appears so much better just by adding a carefully selected throw. Add a touch of drama with a colourful throw if the upholstery is plain. Experiment with printed patterns such as floral, check or striped. If you're feeling adventurous or indulgent go for animal prints or faux furs. If your sofas covers are printed then opt for plain colours to avoid a 'busy' look, try faux suede, cotton or satin.

A throw in any room on any piece of furniture provides the perfect spot for lounging so create your own oasis for reading, listening to your favourite music or for meditating and don't forget that your bedroom and the children's room can be brightened up with a host of soft, snugly and cheerful throws too. There are numerous fun and fleecy throws available now that your children will love which will also keep them warmer on those cold winter nights

So next time you feel the urge for a change don't spend all your holiday savings on wallpaper, paints and new furniture, just use some creative flair and a good choice throw.
