The Official Ebay Hot Items Reports.

By M.Naisbitt

Ebay Research & Ebay Research Tools
There comes a time in every eBayers life when you have
absolutely nothing of your own left to sell!!

When this happens you can either call it a day or resign yourself to a life of buying only.
Or you need to find something else to sell.

This is where research becomes paramount!!

OFFICIAL EBAY HOT CATEGORIES REPORT

This is a monthly report released by eBay Inc. Which features, and I kid you not,
THE HOTTEST ITEMS ON EBAY FOR THE PREVIOUS MONTH.
But more than that, they cover every category as well.
And apparently they only list LEVEL 4 items, for the uninitiated that means items where demand is growing faster than supply, and the bid to auction ratio is higher than average.
I mean come on, armed with knowledge like that the world really is your lobster.
At least the ebay world is, if only briefly!!
The Hot Categories Report (a.k.a. "The Hot List") is updated monthly and gives an unadulterated view of level 4 (L4) categories that meet the following criteria:

• Month-over-Month bid growth is at least 1%.
• Month-over-Month bid growth is at least 1.5 times greater than month-over-month listings growth.
• Bids-per-item is greater than the average for the relevant level 3 category. Note: this is per item, not per listing.
• Conversion rate for the L4 category in the most recent month was at least 50%
• Level 4 category must receive at least 100 bids per week.

Definition of degrees of "Hotness"

"Super Hot" – at least a 35 percentage point spread between bid growth rate and listing growth rate. For instance, month-over-month bid growth for the L4 Category may be 50%, while month-over-month listing growth for the L4 Category may be 10%. Because the percentage point spread (40 percentage points) is greater than 35%, this category is deemed "Super Hot."

"Very Hot" - a percentage point spread between 15% and 35%. For instance, month-over-month bid growth for the L4 Category may be 10%, while listing growth may be -10%. Thus, this category is deemed as "Very Hot."

"Hot" - remaining hot L4s with spreads up to 15%.

Ebay: The Best Research Tool Available To You!!
We will now briefly cover a couple of methods of refining your search.
Now, let's start at the very beginning, go to the home page of eBay and insert the keywords of whatever product you are seeking/selling. Now, on the left hand side of the page, you will see two main areas:

Matching Categories and Search Options.
It is from here that you can choose Completed Listings. There are a multitude of ways to further refine your search, for example, Ending Time, Price, Location, Buy It Now, With Paypal etc. etc. You can go directly to the Completed Listings page. (If you intend to use this often -I do constantly- you may want to add it to your favourites/bookmark it.)

On the home page of eBay, select Advanced Search (in the top right hand corner of the page).
On the Advanced Search page, you are able to make choices about how you want to search.
For example, choose Completed Listings with the Price: highest first and 200 results per page.

You could sort by:
Time: ending soonest / Time: newly listed / Price: lowest first / Price: highest first / Distance: nearest first / Payment: PayPal first / Payment: PayPal last
You could also sort by:
All items / Picture Gallery / Show item numbers etc.
There really are countless ways of further refining your search and thousands of sites dedicated to searching for, "The Holy Grail",(Ebays Hottest Item).

However, we would strongly suggest that before seeking advice from an outside agent, it is an absolute necessity to start any eBay research with your point of sale, i.e. eBay.
