5 Rules to Make Your Web Design a Big Hit

By Maricon Williams

Web design is a broad interface. The selection and coordination of its elements to create a captivating layout and structure make it more difficult to some.

Nonetheless, there is no need to worry that much. All web designers, amateurs or otherwise, should bear in mind the essential rules of thumb and unfailingly follow them.

Basically, there are five rules to consider in making your web design a big hit. In fact, every e-commerce company follows these rules to assure the effectiveness of their sites. Here are the rules:

1. Create a general impression.

If eyes are the widows of our soul, then web sites are certainly the windows of our business. Simply, if a web site does not give a good impression, the visitors will sooner or later drop it like a hot potato.

Moreover, an e-commerce company must ensure that its web site is organized, catchy, professional and neat. Simplicity is a must. This is because less is more.

2. Have an engrossing and practical message.

Visitors come to your site with a purpose on their mind. Be sure that the purpose is served. Visitors are looking for gain and usability. Thus, it is advisable to give a slice of information, entertainment, tips and all sorts to keep visitors. Also, you can link to some related e-commerce companies.

Read and proofread. Be sure to check the spelling, grammar and word choice. Errors in these aspects are the easiest way to lose visitors.

Also consider the readability of the message by choosing readable fonts. Readability is associated with the size, color and the background. Tiny and pale fonts or bright backgrounds make hard to read message. Avoid them.

3. Quick and Easy Navigation.

Visitors hate to wait. In fact, it only takes a few seconds for a visitor to change his mind and transfer from one site to another because of poor navigation. Poor navigation is a big no-no to web design. It creates a hurdle so as to preclude the visitors from enjoying your site.

4. Catchy graphics can do the trick.
Be sure to have stunning graphics. They will help you seize attention. Be aware of the right color choices, subject and symbols to create a positive impression. A word of caution though - do not to overdo it.

5. Be interactive.

To make sure that your visitors' needs are gratified, lend an ear. Collect their opinions, suggestions and recommendations for the betterment of your e-commerce company.

Stick these rules of thumb to your mind and apply them to your business advantage.
