Will an ONLINE criminal justice program prepare me as well as a traditional school?
By Jim Greenberg
At a time when hectic and stressful lifestyles are the norm getting an education long after you graduate high school or even college is quite difficult. The perfect solution to this is the ever popular and most convenient online degree programs. Today, online education is available in all fields of study and criminal justice is no exception. As for doubts whether an online criminal justice program will prepare you as well as a regular course, the answer is yes. The syllabus is the same, the course materials are the same and so are the assignments and class notes.
In fact, many on line programs meet student needs better than traditional classes in terms of ease in learning and easy access to faculty and research material. The online programs are equally detailed and need the same kind of commitment from you as going to college does. In an online educational program you need to be motivated to work on your own. So this means you will need to have done all your research and assignments on time.
The flexible class schedules and all the time that you save on commuting to and from college can be utilized to brush up on your knowledge of the subject. It gives you more time to prepare for class discussions and tests. All the things that happen in a traditional class room can be found in an online criminal justice program too, except that it is all going to be done virtually.
Transcripts and grade reports are all the same for a student pursuing an online criminal justice program and one at a regular college. Also the graduation certificates do not indicate that the program was completed online. What matters is the effort you put in your studies. Everything is offered to you on par with a regular college student but you will need to push yourself to meet and keep deadlines. In fact you can do better at an online program since you have access to your teachers at all times. The same goes for assignments, study materials and access to the online library of the institution.
The only danger is when you choose to enter an online university or college which is not properly accredited by any of the eight regional accreditation (RA) bodies funded by the US Department of Education and authorized by the department to grant accreditations. Online degrees obtained from such colleges and universities are not at par with those available from traditional RA accredited colleges or universities.
