The Interbank Networks: PLUS, Cirrus and Maestro
By Rachel Nava
The Interbanking network gives the Visa and MasterCard a brand that will allow you to use your credit card at any ATM machine worldwide. With the brand that is given are PLUS, Cirrus, and Maestro that way there you are going to see at the ATM's and stores on whether or not your credit card will be accepted there.
With the brand PLUS it is mainly given to all the Visa credit cards. That way there you are going to know if your Visa is able to withdraw any cash amount from and ATM or at the department stores. One advantage of the Visa credit card that has the Plus brand on it, is if you are going to make a purchase and the credit card logos do not say anything about a Visa but it does show the PLUS symbol you are still going to be able to use your credit cards for any purchase that you are going to make.
With the brand of Cirrus it is mainly given to all the MasterCard credit cards out there. It follows the same concept of the Visa card but it is designed to show you where you are able to use the MasterCard instead of the Visa credit card. The credit cards that have the Maestro brand on them are going to work the same as the MasterCard brand Cirrus. But the Maestro card is more of a debit card for use at the ATM's around the world. You are going to be able to use it as a purchase at the stores and gas stations even if it does not have one of the more common PLUS and Cirrus brands on it. No matter what kind of a credit card you may have in your wallet you are going to see an interbank network brand on it close to the Visa, MasterCard logo or you may find it on the back of the card.
When you see the PLUS, Cirrus, and Maestro brand on your credit card you are going to know that you are able to use your credit card at any location that accepts the logo that is on your credit card. That makes it more convenient for everyone that is not real sure of what ATM or store you are able to use your credit cards at with the relaxation of knowing it will be accepted.
