Is It Possible To Be Extraordinarily Successful In This Day And Age?

By Neale Banks

Explores the possibility of being successful in this day and age, with 5 strategies to help people achieve the things in life they want.
In my work you would be amazed at how many times I get that question?

There seems to be an attitude, among people in general, that it is almost impossible to become successful these days.

In the "Good Old Days" it was easier than today, seems to be a common enough feeling
.
But like all truisms, it just isn't true. Before I get into why it isn't true, let's have a look at just what success is and isn't.

When asked to define "success" there is about eleventyseven answers (just in case you don't know what that means, it means a lot). They are as varied as the day is long.
From the mercenary "I want to be a gazillionare and I would then be successful." to the idealistic, "If I can make a positive difference in the world, then I think I would consider myself to be successful."

None of the answers usually have any substance to them, simply because most people don't believe the things they are saying. They just don't believe they can be successful in the areas they have said.

Having been around for more years than I care to remember, I have come across a lot of different definitions of success, but the best one of the lot, for me that is, comes from a very successful business man by the name of Skip Ross.

His definition of success goes like this:

"Success is the progressive realization of a worthwhile goal, and BEING WELL ADJUSTED"

It's all very well to achieve the goals you have set yourself, but if you lose your health, family, friends, social life and spiritual life in the process, then what is the point, dear reader, what is the point?

My belief is that it doesn't matter the age in which we live, we can achieve success at whatever level we want and to whatever perception we have as to what success really is.

But to be successful you need to do the things that need to be done to be successful, when they need to be done, whether you like it or not"

Like and dislike of the things need doing is totally irrelevant to you in your journey to YOUR success.

A few pointers to help you along the way. These are things I have learned that have helped me, and I hope they help you:

1) You must have a dream. That dream needs to be strong enough to carry you through the tough times. An old saying, but a goodie is "When the going gets tough, the tough get going."
2) Visualize having achieved your dream. Not as an "It will happen some-time thing", but as a reality. Visualize it as a done and dusted deal. Finished with, achieved and you enjoying the benefits of that success.
3) Plan how you are going to achieve the success you want. Another oldie but goodie "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail"
4) Then write your plans down. Commit them to memory. Constantly look at them and read them over and over. Internalize them. Make them yours.
5) Set aside some time each day for quite contemplation of your day, and what you have or have not achieved. Think in terms of More, Better, Less. The things that worked for you do more of them. The things that only partially worked, do them better and those things that were a total waste of time, do them less.
