Today millions over millions websites are online. Many of them wants to make money trough the internet. The starting signal for the big run on the advertising platform "internet" was Google Adsense. Everyone can make money with Google Adsense. Look at the Google guidelines. At the moment Yahoo, Msn started also a advertising system like Google Adsense.
The newest trend is to sell Pixel on the homepages. A brithish Student was offering 1.000 x 1.000 pixel for one dollar each. After a half year(!) only, his virtual advertising wall was placed with all kinds of logos. But I mean this is an exception.
My opinion is that it is not possible to make a lot of money in a short time. You must make step by step. Look for a technology or system that comes in a few years and make a information plattform (like http://www.oled-display.net) with alle the news about the technology. So you have a big chance to become the Nr.1 in this future technology. And in a few years you can make really good money with this websites.
When you see by an example an Ebay Auction which calls: "make fast money" by the internet forget it. Most of these websites has no Pagerank or is in the Google index.
It is a very hard way to the success, you must search link partners, good content, and you have to inform about the newest search engines, directorys and so on. I am webmaster since 2001 and the internet business is changing every year. So you need some good information plattforms with good articles and the newest information about the internet business. To become a good SEO it is a very hard way. But if you have enough motivation you can make it.
