The rule of headlines

Headlines may only serve as something readers can check out if ever they want to find out what a printing topic is about. Others use them to put on emphasis on the contents or to add some anticipation to what everything is all about.
Headlines can also be eye-catchers and attention-seekers. They get people to want to know more about what is being written. So it is important to know not only what to write but also knowing how to write them.
Here are some pointers on the proper and the improper way of writing headlines:
The easiest style of deadline to read is the ones with the first letter of the first word capitalized and the rest is in lower case. This is the downstyle form of headline. This makes the headline easier to read. Capitalizing the first letters of each word is difficult because it makes scanning hard to do.
Avoid using all caps too. Although it may seem to emphasize on something you want said, readers find them very hard to read.
If a topic comprises of more than one column, be sure to put the headline above or a part of the last column. Some readers need to be spoon-fed about what they are reading. This will let them know if what they are reading is still part of the same topic.
If the headline is more than one line, make sure it has a break between phrases. Give your readers some time to catch up on their breathe. It is also best to make the second line shorter. This brings the focus of the eyes closer to the start of the text that follows the headline.
There should not be several headlines lined up across the page. The readers might mistake them as one long, single headline. So instead of having separated different points, you ended up making the readers read them like a phrase or a sentence.
Do not put a period at the end of the headline. Period signifies stop and to stop is not what you want your readers to do. The initial purpose of the headline is to readers into the text once they have finished reading your initial introduction.
Headline can be larger than the texts or may even be set in bold. This will ensure that the emphasis is clear. Readers will determine beforehand what it is about and go on reading from there.
